Why the Academy Exists
Nobody taught you how to ride. That’s the problem we educate to solve.
E-scooters and e-bikes require no licence, no test, and no training – which means millions of riders are learning by trial and error in live traffic. The result shows up in emergency rooms every day, in crashes that follow the same predictable patterns: the solo fall, the surface hazard, the intersection conflict, the rider a driver never saw.
Here’s what five decades and 1.4 million graduates have taught us: those patterns can be trained out.
Hazard anticipation is a learnable skill. Vehicle control is a learnable skill.
Even the judgment to ride within your limits is learnable. The Academy delivers all of it the only way that can actually reach every rider — on the phone already in your pocket, in short courses you can finish in a sitting, at your own pace, wherever you are.

The Learning Path
Six courses. One road.
Course 1 — Rules of the Road · FREE Know before you go. The legal and practical foundation every rider needs: what class your vehicle is, where you can and can’t ride, helmet and equipment requirements, and the road rules that keep you protected. Course 2 — Urban Survival Read the city like a trained rider. Riders aren’t hurt at random — crashes follow recognizable patterns, and almost all of them announce themselves early. Learn systematic scanning, space management, and the hazard-anticipation skills that let you see a crash forming before it happens: the opening car door, the hidden driveway, the driver whose eyes never found you. → View course
Course 3 — Own the Ride Master the machine before the moment that matters. The most common micromobility crash isn’t a collision — it’s a solo fall, and solo falls are control failures. This is the vehicle-control course: proper braking (and why panic-grabbing the brakes is the most dangerous untrained instinct), balance and weight transfer on small wheels, reading surfaces before they cause trouble, and matching speed to conditions. → View course
Course 4 — Defensive Riding Mastery Five decades of collision avoidance. Adapted for two wheels. The advanced course — the fullest adaptation of the Collisionfree!® Approach that Young Drivers of Canada has refined across more than a million students. Integrates anticipation, positioning, and control into a complete riding doctrine, then trains it against the hardest scenarios: mixed traffic, night, weather, and the moments when multiple hazards develop at once. Course 5 — Nothing to Prove The most important safety equipment is the way you think. Knowing and being able aren’t the same as doing. This is the mindset course: the overconfidence that arrives right after basic skill does, the peer pressure that turns transportation into performance, riding tired or angry, and the identity underneath it all. Course 6 — MADAS Awareness Know what your vehicle can do — and what it can’t. Your vehicle may already be making safety decisions for you — or it may have no protective systems at all, and nothing on the spec sheet tells you which. Using on the MADAS framework (Micromobility Advanced Safety Systems, from Volume II of the series), this course teaches you what anti-lock braking, stability control, speed governance, and sensors actually do, their honest limits, and what to demand in your next vehicle. → View course
How It Works
Learn anywhere. Every course runs in your browser on any phone, tablet, or computer — no app to install, no classroom to find. Start on the bus, finish on the couch.
Short by design. These are micro-courses: focused, interactive, and finishable. Progress saves automatically, so life can interrupt without costing you your place
Proof of completion. Finish a course and its assessment, and you earn a certificate of completion with a verifiable certificate ID — shareable with employers, and a genuine credential for delivery and fleet riders.

FAQs
Do I need any experience to start?
No. Rules of the Road assumes nothing and costs nothing. It’s for the first-day rider – and it’s a worthwhile refresher for everyone else.
How long does a course take?
Each micro-course is designed to be completed in a single focused sitting, with your progress saved automatically if you step away. Exact durations are listed on each course page.
Is the certificate an official licence?
No – there is currently no licence requirement for e-scooters and e-bikes in most jurisdictions, which is part of the problem the Academy exists to solve. Certificates are proof of completed training: valuable to employers, fleets, and increasingly to insurers, but not a government credential.
Do the courses work on a phone?
Yes – they’re designed phone-first, because that’s where riders are. Any modern browser works; nothing to install.
I ride for a delivery platform. Which course should I take?
All six serve professional riders, but Urban Survival and Defensive Riding Mastery are the core of the professional standard. If your platform or employer has a cohort licence with us, check with them – your enrolment may already be covered
Can I buy a course as a gift?
Yes – courses can be purchased for someone else at checkout. Nothing to Prove and Urban Survival are the two most-gifted courses, usually from parents.
