We handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.

2. Information we collect

Account information. When you register for our Academy, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored in encrypted form).

Purchase information. When you buy a course or book, we collect billing details and order history. Payment card details are processed by our payment processors (Stripe / PayPal) and are not stored on our servers.

Learning records. When you take a course, we collect records of your learning activity – including course launches, progress, lesson completions, quiz questions answered, quiz scores, time stamps, and certificates earned. These records are stored in a Learning Record Store (LRS) operated on our behalf by GrassBlade LRS. We use them to track your progress, issue certificates, support you, and improve our courses.

Form submissions. When you request a sample chapter, join a notification list, subscribe to our newsletter, or contact us, we collect the information you submit (typically name, email, and your message or selection), together with a record of your consent (date, time, source form, and IP address) as required by Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

Technical and usage information. Like most websites, we collect IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and referral source through cookies and analytics tools (see Section 6).

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to: create and manage your account; deliver courses, track progress, and issue certificates; process orders and payments; deliver content you request (such as sample chapters); send service and transactional messages; send marketing communications only where you have given express consent; respond to inquiries; analyze and improve our website, courses, and content; protect the security of our services; and meet legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use learning records for advertising.

4. Marketing communications and consent

We send marketing email only on an express opt-in basis. Every marketing message identifies us, includes our mailing address, and contains an unsubscribe mechanism that we honour promptly (and in any event within 10 days). Withdrawing marketing consent does not affect transactional messages (such as receipts, enrolment confirmations, or content you specifically requested).

5. Sharing your information

We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our behalf and under contractual confidentiality obligations, including: website hosting; payment processing (Stripe / PayPal); the learning management system and Learning Record Store described above; email and customer-relationship platforms; and analytics providers. Some providers may store information outside Canada (for example, in the United States), where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. We may also disclose information where required by law, or in connection with a corporate transaction, subject to appropriate protections.

Purchases made on third-party platforms (such as Amazon) are governed by those platforms’ own privacy policies.

6. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies for site functionality (login sessions, shopping cart), preferences, and analytics (Google Analytics 4). Where consent is required, non-essential cookies load only after you accept them via our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time via [cookie settings link]. You can also control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may prevent parts of the site (such as course access) from functioning.

7. Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above or as required by law: account and learning records for as long as your account is active plus 7 years (so certificates can be re-verified); order records for 7 years to meet tax and accounting requirements; consent records for as long as we rely on the consent plus 3 years; and marketing lists until you unsubscribe. When information is no longer required, we delete or anonymize it.

8. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and reputable hosting providers. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Privacy Commissioner as required by law.

9. Your rights

Subject to legal exceptions, you may: access the personal information we hold about you; ask us to correct inaccurate information; withdraw consent (including marketing consent at any time); and ask us to delete information w0e are not required to retain. To exercise these rights, contact our Privacy Officer (Section 1). We will respond within the time required by law. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

This website and Academy are intended for users aged 16 and older; users under the age of majority should review this policy with a parent or guardian, and parental/guardian consent is required for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
